Hutliving Project
Nancy J Clemance East

Nancy J. Clemance proposes Hutliving. Twelve commissions will be allocated by open application and by invitation to artists from a wide range of disciplines to make creative responses to shepherd huts across the region. These historic dwellings, some around 100 years old, are currently in varied states of repair, with some now completely renovated and others in the process of being brought back to their former glory. The specific location and history of each hut will inspire the shape of the artistic commissions which may focus on songs, poetry, dance, sound or visual art.
Six of these commissions will make up the static exhibitions during 2011 and six will form the touring exhibition programme housed by a shepherd's hut during 2012.
During 2010 a publication containing information about all the commissions and their outreach projects, a potted shepherd's hut history, an arts activity plus maps relating to the static exhibitions, the touring exhibitions and a route for ramblers will be produced.

The spirit of the Cultural Olympiad

30 September 2009

So what we're planning is excellent art, from songs to dance, writing to images, all to be found in unexpected places to bring together all generations and give our homegrown and tourist visitors a really fresh and dynamic view of both our heritage and our contemporary culture.
We have support for putting a shepherd's hut with contemporary art commission into a major shopping centre.
We have support from a national magazine.
We have support from an arts organisation which works with vulnerable young people.

Briefly

29 September 2009

 Hello,
The September weather has been far too distracting and I hope you'll forgive me for spending Friday and yesterday in the woods with some buzzards, a dog and a couple of  artists.
Despite the sunshine and the art I was still keeping up to date with Hutliving progress and today I've brought all the developments back to plot on our Hutliving map ready for the panel on Monday.
The pilot commission is making progress and the shepherd's hut transport is booked up.
Thunderbirds are very nearly go.
